DMV: Motor Carrier Review for State Contract Awards

Motor Carrier Review for State Contract Awards

Preface to the "Process and Qualifying Requirements "

The following explains the process that the Department of Motor Vehicles uses to establish a status that will be assigned to motor carriers for use by a requesting state agency in evaluating potential contractors. Motor carriers should be, as a matter of routine, scrutinizing all elements of their transportation functions (safety evaluation areas).

Motor carriers are strongly urged to review for accuracy the administrative portion of their safety management programs (including roadside inspection reports received) and other pertinent documentation prior to bidding on state contracts.  Roadside inspection reports containing inaccurate information (e.g. carrier mismatch, erroneously documented violations, etc.) may result in the “Not Recommended” status of the carrier.

Additionally, ONCE AN INITIAL EVALUATION HAS BEEN DONE, A CARRIER’S DISCOVERY OF DISCREPANCIES IN ITS ROADSIDE INSPECTION REPORTS WILL NOT BE THE BASIS FOR A REEVALUATION BEFORE THE EXPIRATION OF THE TIME PERIODS DESCRIBED IN THE “PROCESS AND QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS ” SECTION.

Disputes contesting the accuracy of roadside inspections may be submitted by contacting the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration through their website, www.fmcsa.dot.gov.  You can locate the link in the Safety and Security tab and click on “Dispute Safety Data (DataQs)”.
